This September, we’re celebrating a big milestone with Amazing Spider-Man #11, part of the fantastic run by Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and John Romita Jr. It marks the 975th issue of this beloved series, kicking off the countdown to the monumental issue #1000!
To commemorate this occasion, the incredibly talented artist Lee Bermejo will be creating a variant cover for each issue of Amazing Spider-Man, starting with #11 and leading up to next year’s 1000th issue, Amazing Spider-Man #36. These 25 covers will showcase pivotal moments in Spider-Man’s history, beginning with his iconic origin story and his first encounters with some of his most notorious villains.
Lee Bermejo, an award-winning and Eisner-nominated artist, is known for his stunningly detailed style that truly stands out in the industry. He’ll be diving into Spider-Man’s past, present, and future, highlighting the hero’s most memorable tales, from his early adventures to modern classics.
Over the next year, this is a spectacular way to celebrate Spider-Man’s legacy as we approach this landmark moment. It’ll be interesting to see what surprises Marvel Comics has in store for us, especially since issue #900, while enjoyable, didn’t quite pack the punch we were hoping for.
"Even as a kid, I could never shake the sense of realism when I thought about Spider-Man," Bermejo shared. "I was always curious about how his web shooters worked and why you could never see the line where the mask connected to the costume, all while getting lost in the fantasy of a teenager bitten by a radioactive spider who could climb walls and lift cars."
"My artistic vision has always been to portray Spidey in a grounded way without losing that sense of wonder and 'amazing fantasy.' I’m incredibly excited to present key moments from his history through my perspective as we build up to the landmark issue #1000 of Amazing Spider-Man, all while honoring the incredible legacy created by so many artists I admire over the years," he added.
Spider-Editor Nick Lowe chimed in, "There are few artists who can truly capture the essence of Spider-Man like Lee can."
